Hilary Hinton Ziglar was born on November 6, 1926, in Coffee County, Alabama, the tenth of twelve children. Ziglar is best known as an effective motivational speaker who incorporates Christianity into his motivational work.
Ziglar served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945 during World War II and participated in the V-12 Naval Academy training program and the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. In 1944, when he was only 17, he met his then 16-year-old wife, Jean, in Jackson, Mississippi. The two married in late 1946. He worked as a salesman for various companies, and in 1968 became Vice President and Director of Training for Automotive Performance, and moved to Dallas, Texas. In the 2000s, Ziglar was still traveling and attending motivational workshops, although a fall from the stairs in 2007 left him with short-term memory problems. Ziglar died on November 28, 2012 in Plano, Texas at the age of 86.
