For his roles in the Rogers and Hammerstein musical, he won two Tony Awards as well as an Oscar for the film version. Brinner played the role more than 4,600 times on stage. He and his mother immigrated to the United States in 1940. In 1944, Brinner made her television debut on the series Mr. Jones and His Neighbors. In 1960, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6162 Hollywood Boulevard. Yul Brynner died of lung cancer on October 10, 1985 at the age of 65.
