Yoshiki is best known as the leader and co-founder of heavy metal band X Japan. He is the band’s drummer, pianist and lead songwriter.
The band is part of Exstasy Records, an independent record label founded by Yoshiki. In 2000, he formed the personal project Violet UK, and in 2007, he formed the rock super group SKIN. As a solo artist, Yoshiki released the classical studio album Eternal Melody in 1993 and Yoshiki Classical in 2013. In 1999, the Japanese government made it for the 10th anniversary of Emperor Akihito’s accession to the throne. Yoshiki created the original musical theme for the 69th Golden Globe Awards. X Japan’s breakthrough came in 1989 when they released their second album, Blue Blood, which reached #6 on the Irocon chart and remained there for over 100 weeks. They won the Grand Prix Rookie of the Year award at the 1990 Japan Golden Disc Awards. Their 1991 album Jealousy sold one million copies and was the first heavy metal band to perform at the Tokyo Dome.
