Willard Scott is an American actor, author, media personality, clown and comedian. At the time of his death, Willard’s net worth was $10 million. A broadcaster and radio host since the 1950s, Willard Scott is widely regarded as the former weatherman on the Today Show. He also wrote and co-hosted the popular ’60s radio show “Joy Boys” and wrote or co-authored eight books.
He was born Willard Herman Scott, Jr. on March 7, 1934 in Alexandria, Virginia. He was only 16 years old and still attending George Washington High School when he showed his first interest in broadcasting. It was around this time that he started working as an NBC page at WRC-AM, a radio station owned and operated by NBC in Washington, DC.
From 1951 to 1953, while continuing his studies at the American University, he worked with classmate Ed Walker at the university’s radio station WAMU-AM. After graduating, he strengthened his status as a host and participated in many famous programs. Interestingly, Willard is also well known outside of TV hosting. Willard Scott is also the creator and original portrayer of Uncle McDonald’s. He portrayed the character in television commercials and public appearances from 1963 to 1966, occasionally until 1971. Decades later, he appeared in an ad for rival Burger King.
He is best known for his role as a weatherman on The Today Show. He joined the program in 1980 and retired in December 2015. The street outside the studio was renamed Willard Scott Way in his honor. In today’s time, Willard is known for wishing the nation’s centenarians a happy birthday. He also travels to many festivals and landmarks for daily weather forecasts. He has been semi-retired since 1996, working only two days a week. At this point, Al Roker took over the full-time job.

Willard was married to Mary Dwyer Scott from 1959 until his death in 2002. He has two children, Mary and Sally. He married a woman named Paris Keena in 2014.
Willard spent his later years in Sanibel Island, Florida.
Willard Scott passed away on September 4, 2021 at the age of 87.
