William Raymond Smith III is an American NFL player who plays primarily for the New Orleans Saints. He’s 6-foot-3 and plays defensively. Smith was born on July 4, 1981, in Queens, New York, to parents Lisa and William. He grew up in Utica, New York, and attended Thomas R. Proctor High School. Smith continued his education and football career at Ohio State University. He was named one of the top defensive prospects in the state by Prep Football Report.

Smith was selected by the New Orleans Saints with the 18th overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. It was the Saints’ highest pick on the defensive end since Joe Johnson in 1994. Smith’s rookie season ended with 30 tackles and 7.5 sacks. From 2005 to 2007, he led the Saints in sacks for three straight seasons. He was named the starter for the 2006 Pro Bowl. Smith won his first Super Bowl title against the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl 44. He was released from the New Orleans Saints in February 2014 after suffering a knee injury during the 2013 preseason. He was signed by the New England Patriots in May 2014 but was released a few months later.
