Early life, siblings and education
Along with his two brothers and three sisters, Jan grew up on a dairy farm in Drenthe, which made him fall in love with animals since he was a child, which only deepened as he grew older, until he was 12 when he decided to become a man veterinary. He helped the local veterinarian deliver the piglets, which was a moment of epiphany for the young Jan. In the early 1960s, Pol was part of the Mayville High School Student Exchange Program. He spent a year at school and his boarding parents were the biological parents of his future wife Diane. After one year of high school, he returned to the Netherlands, but he was not alone because he took Diane with him. After graduating from high school, Pol studied at the prestigious Utrecht University and obtained a degree in veterinary medicine in 1970.

The beginning of a career
After completing the DVM course at Utrecht University, Jan and his current wife Diane moved to Seaport Beach in Michigan, USA, where he started looking for a starting point for his career and found a place for himself as an assistant already in the seaport The beach proved the veterinarian. Jan has served this veterinarian for more than 10 years, and at the time he thought it was time to move forward. He and his wife moved to Weidman, Michigan, where they opened their own veterinary clinic, Pol Veterinary Services, in 1981.

Once his clinic began to operate, Jan’s business adventure began to develop, and he needed more people to accompany him. The first to help was his wife Diane, but it was not enough. In 1992, he hired Dr. Brenda Gettenberger, who graduated from Michigan State University’s School of Veterinary Medicine. Soon after graduation, he joined “The Great Doctor Pol” and his Pol Veterinary Services Department. Year after year, his customers became more and more satisfied, reaching 15,000 in 20 years. Because of his hard work and dedication, he was selected by the producer of National Geographic Wildlife Producer to showcase the new TV series of the daily operations of his clinic. “The Incredible Dr. Ball” premiered in 2011 and has since become one of the most popular reality shows on the National Geographic Wild Channel. It has 12 seasons and 123 episodes, and it has undoubtedly made Dr. Ball a celebrity.
Sustained success
Since opening, Jan has accumulated more than 22,000 customers; although he had some problems with the animal owner, including being sued for abuse, which jeopardized his license, he managed to solve all the problems outside the court and the case was dropped. His show was also criticized, and some people asked to cancel it, but Boll overcame all the problems and recently finished filming the 12th season.
