Early life, family and education
Sue spent the first few years of her life between her hometown of Chicago and Palatine, Illinois, and then moved to Alaska with her mother. Her parents divorced, so she and her mother changed Illinois to Alaska and settled in Fairbanks. Before the burden of living alone in Alaska fell on young Sue, she attended Lowell Whiteman School.

Bear attacks, injuries and other dangerous situations
No one can tell you what happens in the wilderness of Alaska; Sue is very good at rifles and has multiple guns, including ArmaLite AR-10, but sometimes the rifle can’t save her. As early as 2007, Su was attacked by a bear while outside the camp. She didn’t have time to get a gun, and the bear grabbed her head and shook her repeatedly. She eventually managed to escape the bear’s control, but suffered serious injuries, dislocated her hips, and bleeds from her head and arms. Fortunately, she was found by other camp members and taken to the hospital.
Another incident occurred in 2015, when Sue was involved in a terrible snowmobile accident; after the accident, she was seriously injured because her two joints were dislocated and torn, and her clavicle was fractured. However, this is not the worst. Before she was found, she spent 10 days of helplessness in the wilderness. After being admitted to the hospital, she underwent multiple operations. Now there are more than a dozen screws and titanium plates in her body, and a surgical thread fixes her bones together. Her recovery was slow and extremely difficult.

Litigation against the BBC
After the fact that she crashed and she was left alone in the wilderness, Su filed a lawsuit against the BBC and its subsidiaries, saying she was in a dangerous situation because the producers believed it would increase the viewership of the show. She accused them of violating the contract agreement and deliberately causing emotional distress to Aikens.
