He was born into TV host and musician Atz Kilcher and famous singer and writer Lenedra J. Carroll, both of whom attended college in Idaho . After that, the family moved to the wilderness of Alaska, where he grew up with his brothers, the half-brothers of famous singer Jewell, Az Lee Kilcher, and Nicos Kilcher. In his childhood, the family lived in a homestead and he learned various skills that could help him survive and live in the sometimes harsh environment. Speaking of his education, Shane went to Steller Middle School, after which he attended Homer High School and Homer High School. There, he joined the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves and played several games with them.

accidental damage
In December 2017, Shane Kilcher was involved in a terrible accident while repairing his and Kelli’s new home. He fell off the ladder and broke his back, which was actually a deep fracture of his L2 vertebra, so he had to rest for a while at Alaska Central Peninsula Hospital.
