Zulekha has battled obesity all his life. She has been seduced by food since she was a child, and even as a child she was on a diet called the “Basta diet” – whenever she ate too much her mother would yell “Basta!” , which means “stop”. The Italians stopped her from overeating. When she was interviewed by Glamour magazine, Zulekha said, “At 330 pounds, my heel spurs and my knee were swollen and it made me…get out of bed…very painful.” I would put my feet on the ground…to get the blood back My feet and legs; in a minute I can stand up and in another minute I can walk. On her 28th birthday, after her weight and many health issues, she contacted a surgeon who specializes in bariatric surgery and underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2008. Since the surgery, she feels better and more confident.
