Wes Anderson is an American film director, producer, screenwriter and extra. He is known for films such as The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Royal Tenenbaums and Moonrise Kingdom. Anderson was born Wesley Welsh Anderson on May 1, 1969 in Houston, Texas. His mother, Texas, worked in real estate, and his father, Melver, worked in advertising and public relations. He has two brothers, Mel and Eric. Anderson attended St. John’s School and then the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy.

Anderson’s original career goal was to become a writer. His early filmmaking work was done with Super 8 cameras. He started making silent films starring his brothers and friends. He later worked as a film projectionist. Anderson met future movie star Owen Wilson while studying at the University of Texas at Austin. The two became lifelong friends and they worked on many projects together.
Anderson’s directorial debut was Bottle Rocket (1996), starring brothers Owen and Luke Wilson. His second film, “Rushmore,” was released in 1998 and was a significant hit at the box office. It stars Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray. Anderson went on to collaborate with Danny Glover and Gene Hackman in the comedy drama The Royal Tenenbaums (2001). The film was nominated for an Oscar and Hackman won a Golden Globe. Anderson’s other films include Steve Zissou’s Water Life (2004), Squid and Whale (2005) and Darjeeling Limited (2007). He voiced the character “Stan Weasel” in the animated comedy film The Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009).
Anderson received another Academy Award nomination for his coming-of-age film, Moonrise Kingdom (2012). He was nominated for 3 Oscars, including one for Best Director, for The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). The film won the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture. Anderson’s recent projects include She’s Funny That Way (2014) and Sing (2016). In 2016, he produced a Christmas ad for H&M starring Adrien Brody.
