In 1958, at the age of 17, Westwood moved to London to study at Harrow School of Art. It was here that she studied fashion and silverware, but only stayed for one semester. She then became an elementary school teacher, during which time she also started making her own jewelry, which she sold at stalls. Then in 1962, she married Derek Westwood, for which she made her own dress. Their son Benjamin was born in 1963. The couple’s marriage fell apart when she met Malcolm McLaren, and she moved in shortly after. Together, the two designed and created very popular punk-themed clothing. She has a son with McLaren, Joseph Corey, who founded the popular lingerie brand Agent Provocateur. Today, she is married to Andreas Kronthaler; the couple live in a Queen Anne-style house built in 1703.
