Virgil is known as an influential fashion director and founder of the luxury street brand Off-White. In 2018, he became the art director of Louis Vuitton and one of the former creative directors of Kanye West. Abloh is the first African American to serve as the art director of a French luxury fashion company.
In 2018, he was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine. Abloh was appointed to the board of directors of the American Council of Fashion Designers in 2019.
In July 2021, he sold a majority stake in his brand Off-White to LVMH.
Unfortunately, Virgil died on November 28, 2021 after battling cancer.

Virgil Abloh was born on September 30, 1980 in Rockford, Illinois. His parents are Ghanaian immigrants.
After receiving a degree in civil engineer from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002, Virgil went on to earn a master’s degree in architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). During IIT, he opened a fashion blog called The Brilliance and started designing T-shirts.
After graduating from IIT, Virgil worked as an intern at Fendi at the company’s headquarters in Rome. One of his interns at Fendi is the rapper/entrepreneur Kanye West. The two became friends and eventually began to collaborate on designs.
In 2010, Virgil and a partner opened a retail store called RSVP Gallery in Chicago. In the same year, Kanye hired Virgil as the creative director of his agency DONDA.
In 2011, Kanye hired Virgil as the artistic director of his collaboration album “Watch the Throne” with Jay-Z.

In 2013, Virgil founded the fashion brand Off-White in Milan. In 2014, the brand launched a women’s collection, which was exhibited at Paris Fashion Week in the same year.
The brand is known for its unique use of quotation marks, capital letters, zipper ties, and barricade tape images.
In 2017, Off-White launched a Nike shoe collaboration named “The Ten”. He also collaborated with IKEA to design furniture and handbags.
In 2018, he and Rimowa launched a series of suitcases.
