Vince Staples is an American rapper, songwriter, and member of the Cutthroat Boyz, a hip-hop trio. He is known for the albums Summertime ’06 (2015) and Big Fish Theory (2017). His other projects include Hell Can Wait (2014) and Prima Donna (2016). Staples was born on July 2, 1993 in Long Beach, California. He is the youngest of five siblings. In recent years, one of his sisters has passed away. Staples attended several different high schools in Southern California.

Staples started his rap career with a cameo appearance on Odd Future’s album. He met Syd tha Kyd, Mike G and Earl Sweatshirt songs and became his friends. His first solo mixtape, Shyne Coldchain Vol. 1, self-published in December 2011. A second mixtape titled “Winter in Prague” was released in October. All songs on the tape were produced by Michael Uzowuru. Staples teamed up with rapper/producer Mac Miller on the 2013 mixtape Stolen Youth. It featured Ab-Soul on the song “Killin’ Y’all” and ScHoolboy Q on “Back Sellin’ Crack”. The second part of the ‘Shyne Coldchain’ mixtape was released in March 2014. Staples is 1/3 of the hip-hop trio Cutthroat Boyz. The other members are Aston Matthews and Joey Fatts. They are both rappers from California.
Staples is signed to Def Jam Recordings, ARTium Recordings and Blacksmith Records. His debut EP, Hell Can Wait, was released in October 2014. This marks his first commercial release. The EP features guest vocals by Aston Matthews and Teyana Taylor. Production by No ID, Infamous, Anthony Kilhoffer and Hagler. Staples’ debut studio album, Summertime ’06, was released in June 2015. The album reached number three on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart. It is led by the songs “Senorita”, “Get Paid” and “Norf Norf”. Staples was named to the XXL Freshman Class of 2015. In 2015, he starred in the comedy film Dope (2015) starring Shameik Moore.
A second EP titled “Prima Donna” was released in August 2016. Staples’ second album, Big Fish Theory, was released in June 2017. It reached number 16 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album spawned the single “BagBak” starring Ken Rogers, “Big Fish” featuring Juicy J and “Rain Come Down” by Ty Dolla Sign.
