He and László Kovács documented the 1956 Hungarian Revolution before fleeing to Austria and the United States. He started making low-budget films in the 1960s, but rose to prominence in the 1970s after being hired by film director Robert Altman. Sigmund is known for films such as “Encounters of the Third Kind,” “The Long Farewell,” and “Stalin.” He co-founded the Film Academy Global Film Academy in 2012.
