Victor Ortiz was born on January 31, 1987 in Garden City, Kansas. Ortiz, who grew up with five siblings in a Mexican family, faced difficulties when his mother abandoned the family when he was seven. His father was an alcoholic who later physically abused his children. However, Victor’s father also forced him to start boxing, which apparently became a big source of his future success.
Unfortunately, Victor’s father also abandoned the family after five years of trying to raise the child on his own. This resulted in the children being placed in foster care. When his sister became a legal adult in 2002, Ortiz and his brother moved in with her, and the three began living together in Denver, Colorado.
