Vanna Marie Rosich was born on February 18, 1957 in Conway, South Carolina. She is the daughter of Joan and Miguel Rossic. Her parents divorced when she was very young. Her mother remarried a man named Herbert White. Vanner used his last name. She grew up in North Myrtle Beach and graduated from North Myrtle Beach High School. She moved to Atlanta to attend the Atlanta School of Fashion and Design. While in college, she was a contestant in the 1978 Miss Georgia USA pageant. In 1979, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. In June 1980, she was a “right price” contestant.
Profession
In 1981, Vanna booked a role in the movie “The Spectator” and starred in the horror movie “Graduation Day”. In October 1982, White was hired as one of the three alternate hosts for “Wheel of Fortune”. White became the regular hostess of the show on December 13, 1982, and has been the main hostess of the show ever since. She defeated more than 200 other young women in this job. White continues to co-host the evening version of the show with Pat Sajak. Her contract will last until 2022. White has worn more than 6,700 skirts during his term in the “Wheel of Fortune”, without repeating them. She can’t let her closet not participate in the show. In 1993, after Samsung Electronics Co. aired a commercial advertisement, Vanna sued Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., which featured a smiling robot that could turn letters in a game show. When Vanna White left North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to pursue her dream of becoming a star, she only had $1,000 in her name. She worked as a waiter and a model when she was in college in Atlanta and when she was looking for fame and fortune in Los Angeles.
In the 1980s, Vanna dated the “Playboy” centerfold and Chippendales dancer-turned actor John Gibson. They got engaged sometime in the 1980s, however, Gibson was killed in a plane crash in 1986 before they got married.
In the summer of 1980, she briefly returned to South Carolina to fight ovarian cancer with her mother. Her mother failed in the fight against the disease.
Vanna married restaurant owner George Santo Pietro in December 1990. Santo Pietro was born in a wealthy family in Beverly Hills. He opened his first restaurant in the early 1980s. He then opened a successful sushi restaurant called Sushi-K, which became a popular place for celebrities. They have two children, son Nicholas, born in 1994, daughter Giovana, nicknamed Gigi, 1997. White and San Pietro divorced in November 2002.
When she was five years old, her grandmother taught her how to crochet. She has maintained this hobby until today. After talking about her love of crocheting in “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson”, yarn manufacturer Lion Brand Yarns contacted her. The company signed a contract with her to create her own yarn collection called Vanna’s Choice.
