Known as the “fastest man in the world” Usain Bolt is a sprinter from Jamaica. He became the first person in history to set three world records in a single Olympic Games. He was born in Sherwood Content in Trelawney on August 21, 1986 to Jennifer and Welles Liebolt to his parents. He has two siblings, Sadiki and Sherine. Bolt attended Valdencia Elementary School, followed by William Kneb Memorial High School. Before engaging in track and field sports, he played cricket and football.

Bolt began competing in competitions as a teenager and won his first silver medal in the 2001 High School Championship. He won the gold medal at the 2002 Kingston World Youth Championships. His performance won the IAAF Rising Star Award. Bolt made his professional career debut in 2004, participating in the Caribbean Games in Bermuda. He represented Jamaica in the 2004 Athens Olympics, but was eliminated in the first round due to a hamstring injury.
Bolt won gold medals in the 100m and 200m twice in the 2008 Olympics and 2012. He also maintained the 4×100m relay record in the 2015 IAAF World Relay with a time of 8.65 seconds. He was named the most successful athlete in the history of the IAAF World Championships with 11 gold medals and 2 silver medals. Bolt and Jamaicans Shirley Fraser Price, Johan Black, Asafa Powell and Veronica Campbell Brown plan to participate in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
