Tyson Gay is an American sprinter and Olympic athlete. He specializes in 100 and 200 meter sprints. He held the American record of 100 meters with a time of 9.69 seconds. Gay was born on August 9, 1982 in Lexington, Kentucky. His parents are Daisy Gay and Greg Mitchell. He has an older sister, Tiffany, and two half-siblings, Haleigh and Seth. Gay attended Lafayette High School, followed by the University of Arkansas. He studied sociology and marketing.

Profession
Guy started his track and field career at Lafayette High School under the leadership of coach Ken Northington. He has won the 100-meter state championship three times, including a record of 10.46 seconds in 2001. Gay continued his sprinting career at the University of Arkansas. He rose to fame when he became the first Arkansas athlete to win the 100-meter championship in the NCAA Championship. Gay turned professional in 2005. He won the 200m gold medal in the 2005 and 2006 World Athletics Finals. He won 2 gold medals at the 2006 Athens World Cup and 3 gold medals at the 2007 Osaka World Championships.

Gay made his Olympic debut at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. His left hamstring was injured, which prevented him from winning a medal. At the 2012 London Olympics, Guy ranked fourth in the 100-meter race, behind Usain Bolt, Johan Black and Justin Gatlin. His 4×100 relay team was disqualified that year. In the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, the relay team also encountered the same belief. Gay was tested positive for prohibited substances by the US Anti-Doping Agency in 2013. He was suspended for one year and his Olympic silver medal was also deprived of it.
