Tristan Thompson is a Canadian-born professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics. He’s 6-foot-9 and plays at center or power forward. Thompson was born on March 13, 1991 in Toronto, Ontario. His parents were both athletes. His mother, Andrea, ran track and field and his father, Trevor, played football. He has three younger brothers, Amari, Daniel and DeShawn. Thompson attended St. Marguerite d’Youville Middle School in Ontario and then Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School in New Jersey. He continued his education at the University of Texas at Austin.

Thompson made his mark during St. Benedict Prep. He also played basketball briefly at Findlay Prep in Nevada. Thompson was named McDonald’s All-American as a senior. He was also a member of the 2010 Nike Basketball Summit World Select Team. Thompson committed and played a season of basketball for the Texas Longhorns. He played in 36 games and averaged 13.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks. He led the team to a 28-8 season record. He also won the Big 12 Rookie of the Year honor for his efforts.

Thompson was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the fourth overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. He signed a rookie contract on December 9, 2011, and played in the first game against the Toronto Raptors on December 26. Thompson was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in the 2011-12 season. He represented Team Shaq in the 2012 Rising Stars Challenge. Thompson averaged a career-high 11.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in 2012-13. He made the playoffs in 2015 and 2016. Thompson won the 2016 NBA championship with teammates LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. The Cavaliers beat Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors after falling 3-1 in the series. Thompson signed with the Boston Celtics for the 2020-21 season.
