Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, Trevor Linden excelled in several sports throughout the school year, including hockey, baseball, volleyball, basketball, golf and speed skating.
He received a scholarship to Princeton University for his academic work and his ability on the ice, but chose to play for the WHL’s Medicine Ha Tigers. He played in the minor leagues for part of the season before joining the Tigers junior team full-time. He was the second overall pick in the 1988 NHL draft. He continued to play excellent hockey for the Vancouver Canucks from 1988 to 1998, but management changes led to his being traded. Between 1998 and 2001, he played for multiple teams and dealt with a series of injuries before returning to the Vancouver Canucks in 2001. His game has improved since returning to the Canucks. He retired in 2008 after setting or matching multiple franchise records. The team chose to retire his number. In April 2014, he became president of the Canucks’ hockey operations and alternate governor.
