Trevor Hoffman was born in Bellflower, California in 1967 and was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 11th round of the 1989 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut for the Florida Marlins on April 6, 1993, after being selected in the first round of the 1992 MLB Expansion Draft.
He was traded to the San Diego Padres midseason, where he pitched from 1993 to 2008. He ended his career with the Milwaukee Brewers from 2009 to 2010. Hoffman went 61-75 in 1,035 career games with a 2.87 scoring average, 1,133 strikeouts and 601 saves. He was a seven-time MLB All-Star (1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2007, and 2009) and two-time National League Rowling reliever of the year. He led the NL in saves in 1998 and 2006.
