Tonya Harding is a former American figure skater. She won the gold medal at the United States World Championships in Minneapolis in 1991. Her professional figure skating career ended in 1994 when she was suspected of assaulting Nancy Kerrigan in the Olympic trials. Since then, she has tried celebrity boxing, painting and other miscellaneous performances. Tonya Maxene Harding was born on November 12, 1970 in Portland, Oregon. Her parents are LaVona Golden and Albert Harding. She has a half brother named Chris Davidson. Harding attended Milwaukee High School, but dropped out of school in his sophomore year. Harding started skating at the age of 3. Her coach/director was Diane Rawlinson and later Dodi Titchman (1991-92). Harding began participating in international competitions in the mid-1980s. She won gold medals in the Skate America figure skating competitions in 1990 and 1992. She has won the Moscow Journalism Award (1989) and the National Cup Award (1990). Harding won the gold medal at the American Figure Skating Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1991. She became the first American woman to complete a three-axle race in an international event (the 1991 World Championship). In 1992, Harding finished fourth at the Winter Olympics, third at the American Championships, and sixth at the World Championships. She won 8th place at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. After Harding attacked fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan (Nancy Kerrigan) in 1994, her career took the worst turn. She reached a plea bargain, which saved her from jail. Harding was banned from participating in competitions in the United States for life. Her 1994 US Championship gold medal was also taken away by the President of the American Figure Skating Association.
In addition to skating, Harding also appeared in many TV shows. She has appeared in shows such as Larry King Live, The Weakest Link, World’s Dumbest, Good Morning America and Rosanne. She played the small role of “Gina” in the movie Breakaway (1996). Harding participated in the competition as a professional boxer from 2003 to 2004. Her record is 3 wins and 3 losses. She defeated Paula Jones in the 2002 Fox Celebrity Boxing Show. The black comedy biographical film “I, Tonya” was released in 2017. The role of Tonya Harding is played by actress/producer Margot Robbie. The film was directed by Craig Gillespie (Craig Gillespie), and it earned $46.2 million at the box office.
