Toni Morrison is an award-winning American novelist, editor and professor. In 1988, she won the Pulitzer Prize for her fifth novel “Dear”. Her name is Chloe Ardelia Wofford and she was born on February 18, 1931 in Lorraine, Ohio. His parents are Rama and George Wofford. She has 3 siblings, Raymond Allen, George Carl and Lois. Morrison received his Lorraine High School diploma in 1949. She received a bachelor’s degree in English from Howard University in 1953 and a master of arts degree from Cornell University in 1955. The title of her thesis was “The Treatment of Alienators by Virginia Woolf and William Faulkner.” . “

Morrison taught English for 9 years (2 years at Texas Southern University, then 7 years at Howard University). Her first book “The Bluest Eye” was published by Holt McDougal in 1970. Before it was added to the reading list of the City University of New York (CUNY), its sales had been low. Some of Morrison’s popular novels include “Sura” (1973), “Solomon’s Song” (1977) and “Dear” (1987). In 2015, her latest novel “God Bless the Children” was published. Over the years, Morrison has won multiple awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction (1988), the Nobel Prize for Literature (2000), the National Humanities Medal (2000) and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2012). In 2016, she won the PEN/Sol Bellow Award for Achievement in American Fiction. Morrison is the subject of the documentaries “Imagination-Toni Morrison’s Memories” (2015), “A Foreigner’s House” (2018) and Toni Morrison: I Am (2019). The latter was directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It features the appearances of Oprah Winfrey and Angela Davis.
