He won eight European Tour titles in the 1970s and early 1980s, and played for the British and Irish Ryder Cup teams from 1967 to 1977 and the European team in 1979. Jacklin became the most successful Captain’s Cup team in European Ryder history, leading the team to its first victory in nearly 30 years in the mid-’90s.
