Tony Burton is an American actor, boxer and comedian. He played the role of Tony “Duke” Evers in the Rocky film alongside Sylvester Stallone. He was born Anthony Burton on March 23, 1937 in Flint, Michigan. He attended Flint North High School, where he played football and baseball for the Vikings. In 1954, Burton was named central defender for the All-City and All-Valley teams. He also led the Vikings baseball team to a championship title. He graduated in 1955.

Burton made his amateur boxing debut after graduating high school. He won the Flint Gold Gloves light heavyweight title again in 1955 and 1957. Burton played professionally for a year from 1958 to 1959. During his boxing career, he was 6 feet tall and weighed 200 pounds. He was inducted into the Greater Flint African American Sports Hall of Fame in 1993.
As an actor, Burton started small roles with various theater companies in Los Angeles. He played “Don Chastain” in the 1974 film “The Black Godfather.” In 1976, he played “The Duke” (the manager, coach and friend of Apollo Creed) in the sports drama film “Rocky”. Other films include Assault on Precinct 13, The Shining, Exorcism and Hack!.
