Tom Price is an American politician, physician and member of the Republican Party. He served seven months as the 23rd U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Donald Trump. Before that, he served as the U.S. Representative for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District. Price was born Thomas Edmunds Price on October 8, 1954 in Lansing, Michigan. He grew up in Dearborn and attended Dearborn High School. He received his BA and MD degrees from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Price completed his internship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a former member of the Rotary Club of Roswell and also served on the board of directors of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce. Price founded and worked for several years at an orthopedic clinic in North Atlanta. He is the medical director of the Orthopedic Clinic at Grady Memorial Hospital. He also teaches orthopedic surgery as an assistant professor at Emory University School of Medicine.
In 1996 defeated Democrat Ellen Millorand for Georgia’s 56th Senate seat. He was selected in 1998, 2000 and 2002. He became Georgia’s first republican majority in 2002. Represented Georgia’s 6 Congressional Districts 2004. He held this position from January 2005 to February 2017. During his tenure, he fought to improve health care, resident safety, reform the tax system and enforce stronger immigration laws. He is also a fierce critic of President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act. Price assumed the chairmanship of the House Budget Committee on January 3, 2015. He was appointed HHS secretary in the Trump administration in November 2016. He held this position from 10 February 2017 until his resignation on 29 September 2017. Following criticism of his use of private charter and military aircraft for personal travel. He is the shortest serving HHS secretary in history.
