Todd Howard is an American video game designer and currently the director/executive producer of Bethesda Game Studios. He is best known for the “Fallout” and “The Elder Scrolls” video game series. His honors include AIAS Best Game Director (2012) and Laura Honor Award (2014). Todd Andrew Howard was born on April 25, 1971 in the town of Xamaqunji, Pennsylvania. His parents are Ronald Howard and his wife. He has a younger brother named Jeffrey.

Howard attended Emmaus High School, followed by the College of William and Mary. He graduated in 1993 with a double major in engineering and finance. Growing up, he was fascinated by the role-playing games Wizardry (developed by Sir-Tech) and Ultima III: Exodus (developed by Richard Garriott). He also played the ice hockey game Wayne Gretzky Hockey (developed by Bethesda Softworks) for many hours. Howard tried to find a job at Bethesda Game Studio when he was still in college. He was rejected and told to reapply after graduation.
In 1994, Howard finally got a job at Bethesda Softworks. His first video game credit was the first-person shooter Terminator: Future Shock (1995). He then served as a producer and designer for Skynet (1996). Howard provided additional designs for the open world action RPG The Elder Scrolls II: Fall of the Dagger (1996). It marks the second installment in the Elder Scrolls series. Howard served as the project leader for “The Elder Scrolls: The Red Guard” (1998) and “The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind” (2002). He has served as the executive producer of The Elder Scrolls III: Blood Moon (2003), The Elder Scrolls Travels: The Key of Shadow (2004), The Elder Scrolls IV: Annihilation (2006), The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles (2007) and The Elder Scrolls Scroll V: Skyrim (2011). Bethesda Softworks is currently developing The Elder Scrolls VI.
Howard served as the director and executive producer of the post-apocalyptic action role-playing game Fallout 3 (2008). This is the third major work in the Fallout series. The Howard executive produced Fallout Shelter (2015) for mobile devices. He returns as the director of Fallout 4 (2015). The latest issue of Fallout 76 (2018) is scheduled to be released in November 2018. It will add luster to Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms. Howard was the keynote speaker at the DICE Summit in 2009 and 2012. Several of his games won the Game of the Year award. He was named one of the top 100 game creators of all time by IGN.
