He played for the University of Vermont from 1993 to 1997. Thomas was selected by the Quebec Nordics with the 217th overall pick in the 1994 NHL draft.
Thomas played in the minor leagues and Europe until finally signing with the Boston Bruins in 2005. The goalie also played for the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League.
