Despite his fortune in the oil industry, Tim Headington never gave up his true love, filmmaking. After earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, he founded Headington Oil Company in Dallas in 1978.
Thanks to his father, geologist Timothy Headington, he came up with the idea of oil operations. As the sole shareholder and president of Headington Resources, Inc., the company acquires interests in real estate, hotel development, natural gas, oil, film production, entertainment, and private equity. More importantly, he is the owner of two well-known Dallas hotels, the Joule and Lumen Hotels. In addition to his involvement in the oil and gas industry, Headington is a partner in GK Films, which has produced several award-winning films. The company’s latest fundable projects are the romantic thriller The Tourist (2010) and the animated film Hugo (2011). The latter won five of the eleven nominations in total.
