Timothy John Berners-Lee was born on June 8, 1955 in London, England. Tim’s parents are both computer scientists and grew up with three siblings. He has been researching technology from a very young age. His parents worked on Ferranti Mark 1, the first commercial computer. Although Tim is an Anglican, he gave up his religious beliefs when he was a teenager.
After graduating from Emmanuel School in southwest London, Berners-Lee studied at Queen’s College in Oxford. He spent three years in university and received a first-rate bachelor of arts degree in physics. While in college, Tim succeeded in making a computer from an old TV.
Profession
After graduating from Oxford University, Berners-Lee worked as an engineer in a telecommunications company. In the late 1970s, he began to develop typesetting software for printers. By the early 1980s, he worked as an independent contractor at CERN. During this period, he first began to play with the idea of sharing and updating information among researchers, and built an early prototype system called ENQUIRE based on the concept of hypertext.
After leaving CERN, Tim went to work for a computer company in the United Kingdom. Over the next three years, he was responsible for the technical aspects of the business and developed “real-time remote procedure call”, another early example of computer networking. By 1984, he returned to CERN. So far, CERN has become part of the early Internet system and the largest Internet node in Europe.
In 1989, Berners-Lee made an important contribution to modern technology-he decided to combine hypertext with the Internet. By linking hypertext with the concepts of Transmission Control Protocol and Domain Name System, Tim gave birth to the World Wide Web. He described this innovation as a “desperate act” because using the network at CERN is unnecessarily complicated. Although Berners-Lee may initially intend to make his work at CERN easier, the end result is an incredible contribution to society and humanity as a whole.

Tim eventually built the first web browser, and this software doubled the web editor. He also created the first web server.
