Tilman Fertitta is an American billionaire businessman and television personality. He is best known as the owner, chairman and CEO of Landry Corporation. He bought the Houston Rockets’ NBA team for $2.2 billion in 2017. Tillman Joseph Fertitta was born on June 25, 1957 in Galveston, Texas. His father, Vic, was a seafood restaurant owner. He grew up working in his father’s restaurant. Fertitta attended Texas Tech University, followed by the University of Houston. He majored in business administration and hospital administration.

Fertitta started the restaurant business in 1980 as a partner at Landry’s Seafood. The following year, he opened “Willie G’s Seafood and & Steaks” in Uptown Houston. Fertitta fully owned Landry’s Restaurants in 1988. Landry’s, Inc. went public in 1993 and currently operates more than 500 restaurants and entertainment venues in the United States. The company has thousands of employees and more than $3 billion in assets. In addition to restaurants, Fertitta also has several hotels such as Key Largo, San Luis Resort and Hilton Galveston Island Resort. In 2005, he acquired the Golden Nugget Casino and began to venture into casinos. He also owns the nugget Atlantic City, formerly known as Trump Pier. Fertitta has many amusement parks, boardwalks and aquariums. In August 2017, he bought the Houston Rockets basketball team for $2.2 billion. Before that, he was an investor in the Houston Texans NFL team.
Fertitta was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame in 2004. He is the second-youngest inductee after Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell. He is also the recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Other honors include Casino Magazine’s 2013 Executive of the Year and 2012 Entertainment Today’s Person of the Year. In 2013, he was named the richest restaurateur in the world by Forbes. Fertitta currently serves as President of Children’s Charities of Houston, the University of Houston’s Board of Regents and the Houston Police Foundation.
