Early life, education and career starting point
Although Nancy was born in Daegu, her family later moved to Ohio, where she will grow up. She has Korean, American and Irish descent. She wants to return to Korea and engage in the entertainment industry there. She returned as a teenager and attended the famous art school Hanlim Multi Arts High School, which was the predecessor school for many K-pop artists.
During her studies, she began auditioning for a talent agency and was successful, and was hired by Duble Kick Company, founded by Duble Sidekick, a songwriter duo. The company later changed its name to MLD Entertainment. Her first public appearance was on the TV show “Korean Got Talent”, where she auditioned as a member of the hip hop band Cutie Pies. Soon after, Nancy appeared in music videos, mainly playing small roles. Some of her artists include SNUPER in the single “Stand By Me” and MC GREE in “Dangerous”. In 2016, Duble Kick launched a realistic survival plan “Finding a Mother’s Land”, which aims to find the final 7 members of their planned girl group Momoland from 10 trainees.
She was successful and won a place in the competition.
However, due to lack of attention to the group, their original debut was postponed, so they promoted their music, participated in events, and met people on the street in the next few months. Later this year, they cooperated with Relief Development NGO Plan Korea and gained more attention. Soon after, they released their first extended play (EP) titled “Welcome to Momoland”.
They also made their debut at “M Countdown”. They were also invited to participate in the SBS Gayo Daejeon Music Festival, although one of their members, Yeonwoo, did not attend due to some health problems. They are in line with the Korea Program of the International Relief and Development NGO and appeared in Vietnam to encourage students.
Recent projects
In 2017, two more members joined the group. They returned with the single “Wonderful Love” towards the middle of the year and released their second EP “Freeze!”. It contains the main track of the same name.
In the second year, they made another EP in “Awesome!” It contains the lead single “Bboom Bboom”. After the release, they were accused of plagiarism by the Russian girl group Serebro, and Shinsandong Tiger, the producer of Momoland, quickly defended them. This is because Serebro’s song “Mi Mi Mi” has the same bass line, which is common in electronic music or home music.
The band toured Japan to promote their music and signed with the Japanese record company King Records.
They released the Japanese version of “Bboom Bboom” before making the fourth EP “Fun to the World”, which included the lead single “Baam”. “Bboom Bboom” will achieve platinum certification. In 2019, they produced their fifth EP “Show Me” with the title song “I’m So Hot”. EP is the first group without two members. Later they produced the Japanese studio album “Chiri Chiri”, but three of the members did not appear. It was later revealed that Daisy, Taihe and Yanyu had left the group.
One of their latest projects is a contract with the Philippine media company ABS-CBN.
