Steve Wynn is an American entrepreneur, real estate businessman and art collector. He became a billionaire through his work in the casino/hotel industry. His famous projects include Gold Nuggets, Mirage, Bellagio, Treasure Island and Vigan. Wynn currently serves as the CEO of Wynn Resorts. From January 2017 to January 2018, he served as the Finance Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Stephen Alan Wynn was born on January 27, 1942 in New Haven, Connecticut. His father, Michael Weinberg (died 1963), changed the family name to “Wynn” in 1946. He grew up in Utica, New York, and attended Pebble Hill School in Manlius, DeWitt, New York. He received a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania in 1963. He is a member of Sigma Alpha Mu, a fraternity of universities.

After the death of his father, Wynn took over the family’s bingo hall business. In 1967, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he bought a small stake in Frontier Hotel and Casino. His first major project was the renovation and expansion of the Gold Nugget Hotel in Las Vegas. He transformed the gambling hall into a resort hotel/casino with great success. He became the company’s majority shareholder in 1973. In 1983, Golden Nugget expanded to Atlantic City, New Jersey. Other projects in the 1990s such as Mirage, Treasure Island, Bellagio and Beau Rivage followed closely. Mirage Resorts was sold to MGM Grand Inc. in 2000. Since then changed its name to MGM Resorts International.
Wynn currently serves as Chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts. The company was founded in 2002 and is headquartered in Las Vegas Boulevard, Nevada. It is the umbrella of Wynn Las Vegas, Wynn Macau, Encore Las Vegas, Wynn Palace and Wynn Everette. Wynn was inducted into the American Gaming Association Hall of Fame in 2006. He was named the 2006 “World’s 100 Most Influential People” by “Time” magazine. His honors also include the ATLAS Lifetime Achievement Award and the Manfred Steinfeld Humanitarian Award. In addition to casinos, Wynn is also an avid art collector. His fine art collection includes works by Picasso and Claude Monet. According to reports, he paid $30 million for Johannes Vermeer’s “Young Woman Sitting in Front of the Virgin” in 2004, and in 2009 for Rembrandt’s “Man with Hands On Hips” 33.2 USD was paid.
Wynn is a registered member of the Republican Party. However, over the years, he has supported both sides at different times. He served as the Finance Chairman of the Republican National Committee for one year under President Donald Trump. He resigned in January 2018 due to allegations of sexual misconduct. Prior to this, he served as the vice chairman of Trump’s inaugural committee.
