Steve Scalise is the current House Majority Whip and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Louisiana’s 1st District. He previously served as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives and briefly served as a member of the Louisiana Senate. He is also chairman of the Republican Research Committee, the conservative House caucus. Scalise was born on October 6, 1965 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Scalise is a member of the Republican Party. In 1995, he successfully ran for the Louisiana House of Representatives. He held the position from January 1996 until Cameron Henry succeeded him in January 2008. During his tenure, he opposed the Stelly Plan of 2002, which aimed to reduce certain state sales taxes while increasing state income taxes. From the end of 2007, the Louisiana State Senate from the 9th District elected the size. From January 2008 to May 2008, he was in the office for four months.
