Steve King is an American politician and member of the Republican Party. He is currently a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Iowa’s 4th District. Steven Arnold King was born on May 28, 1949 in Storm Lake, Iowa. His mother, Mildred, was a housewife, and his father, Emmett, was a police dispatcher. Kim grew up in Denison, Iowa, and attended Denison Community High School. He studied mathematics and biology at Northwestern Missouri State University.
Profession
Kim started out as a businessman before pursuing a political career. He founded the earthmoving company King Construction in 1975. After that, ownership of the company passed to his eldest son. King’s other business enterprises include the Kiron Business Association. He also works with the Iowa Land Improvement Contractors Association.
King served in the 6th District of the Iowa Senate from 1997 to 2003. He defeated Paul Shomshor for a seat in the US House of Representatives in Iowa’s 5th District in 2002. After the 2010 census, the district was renumbered as District 4. King was sworn in as District 4 Representative on January 3, 2013. During his tenure, he oversaw topics such as abortion, gun ownership, immigration, and LGBT rights. King is a member of the House Small Business Committee, the House Agriculture Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. He supported Ted Cruz and later Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
