He is also known as a member and bandleader of the fusion band Return to Forever. Clark released his debut solo studio album “Forever Children” in 1973. He has released a total of 20 solo albums, the most recent being Stanley Clark in 2010. His most popular single was 1989’s “Sweet Baby”, which peaked at number 19 on the US charts. From 1972 to 1977, Clark also released seven studio albums with Return to Forever. He has released 23 albums as co-leader or band member. Clarke has produced albums for artists such as Roy Ayers, Roy Buchanan, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Natalie Cole and Jim Walker. As an assistant, he recorded with Chick Corea, Curtis Fuller, Dexter Gordan, Pharaoh Sanders and more. Clark was awarded Bassist Magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. He also won a Grammy in 1975 and was Rolling Stone’s first “Jazz Player of the Year”. He was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Sunset Boulevard in 1999.
