Stan Lee is a respected American comic book author, editor and publisher. He co-created superheroes such as Spider-Man, Fantastic Four and Iron Man. Li was born on December 28, 1922 in Manhattan, New York, his original name was Stanley Martin Lieber. His parents are Celia and Jack Lieber, and he has a younger brother named Larry. Lee and his family moved to the Bronx when he was a teenager. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School and joined the WPA Federal Theater Project in 1939. He was influenced by the heroic movie of actor Errol Flynn.
Profession
In 1939, Li worked as an assistant at Times Comic Company. Later, he was formally hired by editor Joe Simon. Just in time comics evolved into Marvel comics in the 1960s. Lee and Jack Kirby created the Fantastic Four in 1961. They followed up with the Hulk, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Thor and X-Men. After several years as an editor in the comics department, Lee became Martin Goodman’s successor in 1972 as a publisher.
In 2001, Lee co-founded the media production company POW! Entertainment. His autobiography “Excelsior! “The Strange Life of Stan” was published in 2002. Lee was inducted into the “Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame” in 1995 and into the “Jack Kirby Hall of Fame” in 1995. He was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2008, and his star was added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011.
