He started playing guitar at an early age, and in high school he played hockey and took classes at the improv comedy venture The Second City, before moving from Toronto to York University to study film studies at Glendon College. His post-graduate activities include working as an independent filmmaker, occasional TV writer and film critic for a Toronto newspaper.
In 1993, his short film “Telewhore” was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival and was nominated for Best Canadian Short Film, and the following year he collaborated with friend Kenny Hotz on the short film “It Don’t Cost” Nothin’ to Say Good.
