Minister of Finance from December 1988 to March 1990. He was Minister for Foreign Affairs three times from October 1986 to December 1988, July 1992 to November 1995, and March 2001 to November 2002. Peres also served as Prime Minister of Israel three times, from April 1977 to June 1977, from September 1984 to October 1986 and from November 1995 to June 1996. Peres became Israel’s ninth president in July 2007, serving until July 2014, when Reuven Rivlin succeeded him. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 and was awarded the Grand Cross of the Knights of St Michael and St George in 2008. He is also the author of 11 books. Shimon was married to Sonya Gelman in 1945 until her death in 2011. The couple have three children. Simon Perez passed away on September 28, 2016 at the age of 93.
