Born in 1980 in Saint Foy, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, Simon Gagne began his relationship with the game of hockey by playing in the QMJHL at the age of 16. It didn’t take long for the Philadelphia Flyers to notice Gagne’s skills on the ice, and the team selected Gagne with the 22nd overall pick in the 1998 NHL draft. After the 1999 season, he was a member of the NHL’s All-Rookie Team and was named an NHL All-Star twice in 2001 and 2007. He received the Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Award for the 2000-01 season, which has been awarded each season to the most improved player on the Philadelphia Flyers.
