Silento is an American rapper, singer and songwriter. He shot to fame with his 2015 hit “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)”. His other songs include “Get Em”, “Young Love”, “Talk To Me” and “Like It Like It” with Marcus & Martinus. He was named “Best New Artist” at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. Silento was born Ricky Lamar Hawk on January 22, 1998 in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Redan High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

Silento’s debut single “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” was released on YouTube in January 2015. The song’s popularity led him to sign a contract with Capitol Records three months later. The track was released commercially by Capitol on May 5, 2015. It reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It is certified 6x Platinum in the US and 2x Platinum in Australia and Canada. The official music video was released on June 25, 2016 and has since garnered over 1.5 billion views. Silento won Best Dance Performance at the 2015 Soul Train Music Awards. He was also nominated for a Teen Choice Award and an MTV Video Music Award.

He starred in the TV movie Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rock Eve with Ryan Seacrest in 2017 (2016). Silento released the single “Get Em” in 2016, followed by “Young Love” in 2017. He appeared on the song “Volcano” on The Vamps’ second studio album Wake Up (2015). In 2016, he collaborated with Sophia Grace on the single “Girl in the Mirror”.

In 2016, Silento and Punch’s single “Spotlight” won the Global Collaboration Award at the 26th Seoul Music Awards. In May 2017, another collaboration with Marcus & Martinus, “Like It Like It” reached number 16 and number 48 on the Norwegian Singles Chart and Swedish Singles Chart respectively. Silento’s latest single “Talk To Me” was released in June 2018. The song is taken from his upcoming album, Fresh Outta High School. The music video for “Talk To Me” was directed by David Sule.
