He took over in 1976 and sold the company to Beatrice Foods. Sidney left in 1978 to create Harman International Industries. By 1989, the company’s international sales had exceeded $500 million. In 2010, he bought Newsweek for $1 and took on the company’s $47 million in debt. Sidney is married to Jane Harman. Sidney Harman died on April 12, 2011 at the age of 92 due to complications from acute myeloid leukemia.
