Sergei Zubov was born in Moscow, Russia in 1970 and started his professional ice hockey career at CSKA Moscow. The New York Rangers selected him with the 85th overall pick in the fifth round of the 1990 NHL draft.
Zubov remained in Russia until 1992 when he joined the Rangers and played for the big club and team’s AHL affiliate. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1995, but couldn’t get along with team captain Mario Lemieux, and was traded to the Dallas Stars a season later. Zubov later played with SKA St. Petersburg of the Continental Hockey League. Zuboff has won two Stanley Cups in his career, first with the Rangers in 1994 and then with the Stars in 1999. Zuboff played in four NHL All-Star Games in 1998, 1999, 200,0 and 2008. He has played in international competitions with Russia, United and the Soviet Union. Zubov was named one of the 100 Greatest Rangers in the book “100 Ranger Greats” and is one of two Russian-born blueliners to record time in over 1,000 professional games. Zubov and his wife Irina have two children.
