Sergey Popov Net Worth: Sergey Popov is a Russian entrepreneur who has a net worth of $5.5 billion. He was born Sergei Viktorovich Popov in 1971 and his assets are from the MDM Industrial Group. After graduating from the Ural Polytechnic Institute with a degree in electrical engineering, Popov joined the Ural-Siberian Commercial and Industrial Company in 1993.
Three years later, they founded the MDM business Concern with Andrei Melnichenko. Initially, Popov was a partner and business manager of the firm, but soon in 2000 he became a founding member of the MDM Industrial Group. In addition, Popov and Melnichenko, together with his partners, created TMK, Russia’s major pipeline exporter, independent coal producer SUEK, and the country’s largest manufacturer of mineral fertilizers, Eurochem. In 2006, the two began dividing up their assets, a process that was finally completed in 2012. After the split was completed, Popov focused on banking and made a massive merger with banking tycoon Igor King’s Siberian Bear Bank. Popov now owns 77 percent of MSM Bank and nearly 50 percent of SUEK.
