Sean Spicer is an American statesman, political strategist and member of the Republican Party. He served briefly as White House press secretary under President Donald Trump. His previous positions were communications director and chief strategist for the Republican National Committee. Spicer was born Sean Michael Spicer on September 23, 1971, in Barrington, Rhode Island. His mother, Katherine, was an academic manager, and his father, Michael, was an insurance agent. Spicer attended Portsmouth Abbey School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. He completed a bachelor’s degree at Connecticut College and a master’s degree at the Naval War College. He majored in National Security and Strategic Studies.

Before entering politics, Spicer served as a member of the Navy Reserve. Joined in 1999, the current rank of commander. Spicer served as communications director and spokesman for the House Budget Committee in 2004. From 2005 to 2006, he oversaw media training members of Congress. Later, he served as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative to President George W. Bush for Media and Public Affairs.
Spicer began serving as communications director for the Republican National Committee in February 2011. He oversaw the development of the RNC news/research team, improving their social media, TV studio, video production and more. He was appointed Chief Strategy Officer in February 2015. Spicer was nominated as White House press secretary in the Trump administration in December 2016. His nomination was approved and he was sworn in on January 20, 2017. He was briefly White House Press Secretary Communications from January 2017 to March 2017. Spicer resigned as White House press secretary on July 21, 2017. Sarah Huckabee Sanders succeeded.
