Early life and career
Sean Patrick Hannity was born in New York City on December 30, 1961, and grew up in Franklin Square, New York. His mother, Lillian, worked as a stenographer and corrections officer in the county jail, and his father, Hugh, was a family court officer. He is the youngest of four siblings. He is of Irish descent; all four of his grandparents immigrated to the United States from Ireland. He attended high school at St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary in Uniondale, New York. He then continued his studies at New York University, UC Santa Barbara, and Adelphi University, but never graduated from college.
In 1982, Hannity started her own home painting business. A few years later, he worked as a construction contractor in Santa Barbara, California. In 1989, while in California, he had the opportunity to host his first talk show on KCSB-FM, UC Santa Barbara’s volunteer college radio station. However, his weekly show was canceled less than a year later due to controversy over the “controversial” way LGBT rights were discussed on the show. After leaving KCSB, Hannity joined WVNN in Athens, Alabama as an afternoon talk show host. In 1992, he moved to WGST in Atlanta.

Hannity first reached a wider audience in 1996, when Fox News co-founder Roger Ailes hired him to host a TV show. The show, which he co-hosted with Alan Colmes, debuted as “Hannity & Colmes” and ran until January 2009. With his adventures on television, Hannity hasn’t given up on his radio projects. In 2007, while hosting “Hannity & Colmes,” Hannity began hosting her own Sunday night TV show, also on Fox News Channel, called “Hannity’s America.” After Colmes left “Hannity & Colmes” in 2009, the network renamed the show “Hannity” and replaced “Hannity’s America.” “Hannity” episodes are aired Monday through Thursday at 9 p.m., and Friday’s editions are usually pre-recorded. It is the #1 cable news broadcast in its time slot. The show often features lengthy monologues and political and legal analyses of a variety of topics and issues.

Hannity is a published author. His first book, Let Freedom Ring: Winning the Battle for Freedom on Liberalism, was published in 2002, and his second book, Saving Us From Evil: Defeating Terrorism, Authoritarianism, and Liberalism, was published in 2004. Published by ReganBooks. These all made it to the New York Times nonfiction bestseller list, where it stayed for five weeks. His third book, “Conservative Victory: Defying Obama’s Radical Agenda,” was published by HarperCollins in March 2010, and only made the New York Times bestseller list. Hannity married Jill Rhodes in 1993. They have two children and live as a family between Long Island, New York, and Naples, Florida. In June 2020, it was revealed that Sean and Jill had actually divorced a year earlier.
He is a devout Christian but has left the Catholic Church, citing “too much institutionalized corruption” as a reason for him to do so.

He owns everything from luxury mansions to low-income properties. In 2013 alone, he allegedly bought dozens of properties, most of them in foreclosure. In 2014, he bought two large apartment complexes in Georgia for $22.7 million, renting between $700-$1,000 a month.
