Scott Oakman is an American writer, producer, actor, comedian, director and podcast host. Scott Oakman has a net worth of $5 million. After starting out as a writer and performer on the sketch series “Mr. Show,” Aukerman went on to become the host of the weekly comedy podcast “Comedy Bang!” This is probably his most famous achievement, as podcasting has become very popular over the years. He is also known for creating a show also known as “Comedy Blast.” And the show has become equally popular. Additionally, Scott is very active behind the scenes, co-creating shows like Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis and co-founding the Earwolf Podcast Network.
early life
Scott Oakman was born on July 2, 1970 in Savannah, Georgia. He grew up in Orange County, California, and attended a special art school in high school. He also studied acting and musical theatre and began writing his own plays at a very young age. Scott grew up in a Baptist family and went to church 3 times a week until he graduated from high school. During these teenage years, Aukerman also formed a short-lived band with No Doubt future drummer Adrian Young.
After high school, Scott attended Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, where he met BJ Porter. The two started writing together and worked together for a radio show called “Lutz Radio.” He then studied at the Pacific Academy of Performing Arts before seriously starting his entertainment career.
Profession
Scott began touring the country as a musical actor in the 1990s. He then started working as a comedian at Comedy Stores in Los Angeles. This brought him to the attention of “Mr. Show” creator Bob Odenkirk. Oden Kirk brought Oakman to his sketch series, and Scott became a regular writer and performer. In 1999, Oakman was nominated for an Emmy along with the rest of the cast of “Mr. Show.”
After “Mr. Show” was cancelled, Oakman focused more on writing film and television scripts. He then helped write screenplays for films such as “Run Ronnie Run!”, “Tough D in the Choice of Fate” and “Shark Tale.” However, many of the plays he wrote remain unproduced. During this time, Aukerman worked extensively with BJ Porter, which continued into the 2000s. During this decade, the pair worked on a number of stand-up comedy projects in Los Angeles, including “Comedy Death Ray.”
Aukerman and Porter then created “Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis”, which proved to be very popular. The sketch show has since been put on the website Funny or Die. In addition to sketching, the show features interviews with Jon Hamm, Natalie Portman, Bradley Cooper, Charlize Theron, Ben Stiller, Steve Carell, Sean Penn, Bruce Willis, Jennifer Aniston and more.

Even Barack Obama was on the show, and the former president used the opportunity to promote the Affordable Care Act. The episode was so successful that Scott won an Emmy in 2014 for Outstanding Short-Form Reality Entertainment (directed by Oakman). Every episode of the show has garnered millions of views. Scott later won an additional Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Format Reality Entertainment in 2015. This time, the award honors an episode of Brad Pitt.
In 2011, Porter and Oakman parted ways. Scott then renamed “Comedy Death Ray” to “Comedy Boom! Boom!” The show ran for another year before ending in 2012. However, Scott previously started his own podcast in 2009, titled “Comedy Death Ray Radio.” It was then renamed “Comedy Bang! Bang!” and eventually became more popular than the show it was based on, continuing into the 2020s.
Scott’s involvement in the podcasting world led him to create his own podcast network, called the Earwolf Network. The network has produced and published many podcasts since its inception. In addition, Earwolf has worked with Funny or Die several times. Then a sister network called Wolfpop was created, with a second network led by comedian Paul Scheer. However, in 2016, the two networks were essentially merged into one conglomerate.
Another notable achievement in the podcasting world is Aukerman’s longstanding partnership with Adam Scott. Oakman and Scott are best known for creating the podcast series “U Talkin’ U2 to Me?” On the surface, the podcast is based on a discussion of the U2 band. However, many episodes are only vaguely related to the band and come with many gags and jokes. Ultimately, Scott and Oakman were able to interview many members of U2. Aukerman and Scott have since released spin-off podcasts focusing on bands like REM and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
relation
Scott is married to his longtime girlfriend Kulap Vilaysack, a Lao comedian, actor and showrunner.
real estate
In 2019, Scott and Kulap reportedly listed their Hollywood Hills home for about $2.05 million. Unfortunately for the couple, the price reflects a paltry profit margin of $380,000, as they originally bought it for $1.7 million only five years ago. Judging by recent patterns in the housing market, it seems unlikely they will break even as listing prices fall further.
Originally built in 2005, the home is 3,369 square feet with glass walls. There are also hardwood floors and great views of the surrounding canyon and city. Other features include a staircase with skylights, three bedrooms and a floor-to-ceiling tiled fireplace.
