Savvy Shields is an American Jazz Dancer, Miss Arkansas 2016 and Miss America 2017. She was born Jenny Shields in Savannah on July 1, 1995 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Her parents are Karen and Todd. She has a brother named Dane. Shields attended Fayetteville High School, followed by the University of Arkansas. She majored in fine arts and minored in business. She is also a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at her university.

Shields was named Miss Arkansas’ Outstanding Teen in 2009. Seven years later, she was crowned Miss Arkansas at the 79th Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant. Her personal platform, Eat Better, Live Better, aims to educate people about the importance of healthy eating. Shields has received many awards and honors as Miss Arkansas. These include a $25,000 scholarship from CITGO, and more than $70,000 in awards and gifts.
Shields succeeds Betty Cantrell as Miss America 2017. She was crowned on September 11, 2016. During her Q&A session, Shields was asked a political question about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Her response was, “If you want to be a leader in the free world, everything you say and do matters, and all your actions must be held to a higher standard”. The pageant consisted of 52 contestants and was held at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The runner-up was Rachel Wyatt of Miss South Carolina, and the third was Camille Sims of Miss New York. The contestants were judged by Gabby Douglas, Mark Cuban, Ciara, Sara Foster, Laura Marano, Cole Swindell and Sharlene Wells Hawkes.
