David Ryan Adams was born on November 5, 1974 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He and two siblings were raised by their grandparents after their father left home. Ryan’s talent for writing was evident at a young age. He also learned how to play the electric guitar at the age of 14. After dropping out of high school in 10th grade, Adams started his musical career with many bands while earning a GED.

Adams suffered from a number of physical and mental health problems. As far as his physical condition goes, he suffers from Meniere’s disease and tinnitus. Because of these issues, the waiters in the first row of his concert were advised not to use flash photos or AF assist beams. As far as his mental problems are concerned, he says he suffers from depression and anxiety.
drug abuse
In 2007, Ryan Adams revealed that he had been battling substance abuse for years. However, he also revealed that this period of addiction ended in 2006. During these struggles, he said, he regularly used heroin mixed with cocaine. He also admitted to abusing alcohol and prescription drugs. Fortunately, he was able to overcome substance abuse with Valium, 12-step sessions, and the support of his then-girlfriend, Jessica Joffe.
Brian Adams Confused
Ryan Adams is often mistaken for Brian Adams due to the similarity of the two artists’ names. During one of Ryan Adams’ infamous live performances, a fan (who was allegedly drunk) yelled “Play Summer ’69!” The song was of course Brian Adams, not Ryan Adams Adams’. Ryan was reportedly so furious that he immediately screamed a few swear words, ordered the house lights to be turned on, and found the shouting fan. He then gave him a full refund and ordered him to leave, refusing to continue performing until the fan left the building.
Later, Adams claimed that he kicked the man out of the show because he was drunk, not because he called out the Brian Adams song. Years later, Ryan performed at the same venue and featured the cover of “Summer ’69” as a reference to the event. Brian Adams and Ryan Adams are friends.
Harassment allegations
In 2019, Ryan Adams was accused of sexually harassing multiple women. One of the women was his ex-wife Mandy Moore. They claim that Adams was willing to help with their music careers. After making those promises, he reportedly followed up with a romantic proposal. When those advances were rejected, he allegedly retaliated against them by sabotaging their careers and harassing them online. A man has accused him of sending her sexual messages when she was underage.
Adams was quick to deny all of the allegations, but soon reports surfaced that the FBI was investigating him over a communication he had with an underage fan. Later in 2019, the FBI announced that they would drop the investigation after finding no evidence of illegal communication or conduct with underage fans. The fan who initially accused Ryan of sexting later released a statement confirming that she lied about her age when communicating with him and repeatedly told him she was 18.
Still, the controversy has affected Adams’ career. He was forced to cancel travel in the UK and Ireland and issue full refunds to ticket holders. He also issued an official statement in 2020 apologizing for his actions and actions.
