Russell Okung was recruited by schools in Oklahoma, Louisiana State University, and Nebraska, but he transferred to Oklahoma State University in January 2006. Professional Football League
Russell O’Connell was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the 6th overall pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, making him the first Oklahoma linebacker to be selected in the first round since 1970.
He played for Seattle from 2010 to 2015. Before joining the Los Angeles Chargers from 2017 to 2019, he played for the Denver Broncos for a season. In 2020 he signed with the Carolina Panthers.
Contract and professional income
On August 6, 2010, Russell and the Seahawks signed a six-year contract worth $48 million, including a $29 million deposit.
In March 2016, Russell signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Denver Broncos. As we all know, he did not use a broker in this transaction, but chose to represent himself. It turned out that this was a bad decision, because his contract did not include any security deposit, and it was very beneficial to the Broncos. With various performance incentives and options, the contract could have swelled to $48 million. If he had signed a more traditional contract, he would have received a guarantee of approximately $20 million in 2017 and 2018. Unfortunately, the Broncos did not choose him, and Russell became a free agent in February 2017.
A month later, he signed a four-year, $53 million contract with the Los Angeles Chargers.
In March 2020, Russell was traded to the Carolina Panthers.
Russell’s NFL career income is as high as $71 million.
Bitcoin contract
In December 2020, Russell announced that he had chosen to receive half of his $13 million salary in Bitcoin. The NFL quickly clarified that all contracts are paid in U.S. dollars. Anything that happens to Bitcoin conversion will happen after the fact. When he announced his intention to convert half of his salary into Bitcoin, the currency was traded at approximately $27,000. Within four months, the price rose to $60,000.
When the price of Bitcoin was $60,000, Okung’s $13 million transaction became approximately $20 million. When the USD value of Bitcoin reaches USD 61,000, Okung’s BTC investment value is USD 14.64 million. This pushed him to the top 30 highest paid NFL players.
